SaskWater's 99.5 kW ground-mount solar system at the Meadow Lake Water Treatment Plant — proof that solar performs strongly even in far northern Saskatchewan.
SaskWater (Saskatchewan Water Corporation) · Installed December 2023

SaskWater (Saskatchewan Water Corporation) chose Prairie Sun Solar to install a 99.51 kW ground-mount solar system at the Meadow Lake Water Treatment Plant in far northern Saskatchewan, commissioned December 2023. At a latitude of roughly 54.1°N — about 5 degrees farther north than the Estevan-area projects in our fleet, where conventional wisdom says solar tails off — annualized output is still 1,411 kWh per kW per year, about 13% above the Saskatchewan provincial average of 1,200–1,300. Two full years of production data: 121,205 kWh in 2024 (first full year), 142,864 kWh in 2025 (improvement as the system settled in). A Crown-corporation customer demonstrating that properly engineered solar performs well across the entire province, not just the southern half.

What this means for you: kWh per kW per year is the gold-standard measure of solar performance — it accounts for system size, sun hours, panel orientation, and weather. Higher numbers mean fewer panels needed for the same energy output, lower install cost, smaller footprint on your roof or land, and a faster payback period.
